
Brian St. John - Music Director
He currently resides in Longmont, Colorado,
and has been Music Director of Timberline Symphony Orchestra and of Longmont Youth Symphony since 1995.
In Colorado, St. John has been very involved in the promotion of growth of arts and music in Boulder County.
Since 1999 St. John has composed five ballets: Cain: A Mystery, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland,
Hansel and Gretel, Suite de Ballet (a comedy), and Pinocchio. These ballets are
unique in that they feature the young musicians of the Longmont Youth symphony and the young dancers of
Longmont Dance Theatre.
St. John has guest conducted many orchestras including:
Civic Opera Theater of Kansas City, Lawrence Symphony Orchestra, Longmont
Theater Company, Suzuki Association of Colorado Orchestras, Kansas City
Camerata, and the Chicago Civic Orchestra.
St. John has studied with eminent conducting pedagogues Robert Olsen,
Gustav Meier and Gunther Schuller.
Before coming to Colorado, St. John lived in Kansas City, Missouri.
He attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music where he earned a Bachelor of Music,
Viola Performance, and a Master of Music in Orchestral Conducting.
While earning his Master's Degree, St. John was Assistant Conductor for the Conservatory's Orchestras and Opera.
After college, he served as Assistant Conductor for the State Ballet of Missouri and Assistant Conductor
for the Philharmonia of Kansas City.
Brian is married to ballet dancer Kristin St. John, Artistic Director of Longmont Dance Theater.
